“Buen café y unos mates”: Coffee and Yerba Mate tasting with the Spanish Department!

“Buen café y unos mates” will celebrate two traditional drinks from Argentina and Puerto Rico, the Yerba Mate and the strong, dark Puerto Rican coffee.

Argentinians and Puerto Ricans share these warm drinks to facilitate any type of conversations. Light foods like sanguiches de pan de miga and guayaba con queso de papa are also accompanied with the drinks.

Coffee and Yerba Mate are for sharing, gifting and making culture. Preparing and pouring Yerba Mate or coffee for others is a ceremonial act of love and dedication with both friends and strangers. Like all rituals, they bring people together.

UPDATE:

Argentinian Yerba Mate and Puerto Rican coffee was the perfect excuse to escape from the cold and gather with the Spanish TAs Gabriel and Katia, other students, professors, and staff in the Matt Cole Reading Room in the Zilkha Center. Everybody was able to learn about these two traditional warm drinks from South America and the Caribbean, chat in Spanish and eat the customary finger foods that accompany coffee and mate.
