Dabke is a type of circle and line dance that is performed at joyous occasions in Middle Eastern communities across the world, particularly those with Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian, Iraqi, and Palestinian roots and heritage. While Palestinian dabke is a cultural and traditional form of expression, it has also become a powerful symbol of resistance. The Spanish Department is preparing an object theater for 'El Día de los Muertos' for students to practice their Spanish while creating stories. This workshop was designed by Kate Bessey, Ph.D. for Storyworks, a collective of teaching artists located in Cordoba, Argentina who combine their expertise in theatre arts, storytelling, classroom teaching, and curriculum development to create original drama-based learning experiences for students of all ages. Arabic Drumming workshop with Rami ‘Tabla’ El-Aasser

Rami 'Tabla' El-Aasser plays darbuka and sings worldwide with groups including Alsarah & the Nubatones, Raquy’s Düm, and Zikrayat. He is a regular at NYC's taarab and dance parties with traditional musicians from across the Middle East.
