2023-24 Chinese Government Scholarship: Accepting Applications Through Jan. 30, 2023

The Chinese Government Scholarship, sponsored by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), provides students from all over the world with a fully funded opportunity to study in China. The scholarship allows students to either study Mandarin in a non-degree university-affiliated language training center or pursue a master’s or doctoral degree in a degree-granting program (in Chinese or English) at one of the 115 universities and colleges located all over China that are approved by CSC. The scholarship term is either one academic year (from September 2023 to July 2024) or multiple years (starting from September 2023) if the applicant chooses to pursue a degree. Graduating seniors who wish to study in China are strongly encouraged to apply. No previous study in Mandarin is required. Open to all. 2022 Friedberg Fellowships for travel to and in France (Deadline: April 29)

The Marguerite W. Friedberg Memorial Travel Fellowship provides funding for research-related travel to and within continental France. All students, except for graduating seniors, are eligible to apply for this fellowship. The Fellowship seeks to support students who wish to undertake research or creative work that is inspired by a desire to delve more deeply into a French-related subject and/or that is linked to future thesis work. It may also be undertaken in connection with study abroad, but the travel must be supplementary to any travel or excursions included in an organized study abroad program. The fellowship may not be applied to either the charges of a study abroad program or the costs of any travel in France that is part of a study abroad program. At the end of their research travel, students will be required to write a 3-page report to the donor and the Romance Languages Department upon their return. The report will be posted on the CGLLC website. The application deadline is Friday, April 29. Continue reading »

Abdul W. Wohabe 1959 Arabic Studies Fund (Deadline: February 25)

The Abdul W. Wohabe 1959 Arabic Studies Fund supports and promotes the study of the Arabic language and Arab culture in the Middle East and North Africa. It was granted by the family of Abdul Wohabe ‘59 on behalf of their late father who came to Williams from Saudi Arabia in the 50’s. The fund will be granted in perpetuity, offering students the opportunity to study Arabic or conduct research in an Arabic-speaking country during a summer or winter study. There is also an option for the funds to be used to apply to domestic programs if international travel is impossible. The grantees may use the funds to cover the cost of the program, travel, and living expenses. Applications for the Summer of 2022 are now open! Please fill out this Google Form. 2022 Linen Fellowships for Summer Study in Asia (Deadline: April 4)

Supported by an endowment established by family and friends in memory of James A. Linen III, Class of 1934, the Department of Asian Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offers the Linen Fellowships for Summer Study in Asia to assist Williams College undergraduates in traveling to Asia during the summer for educational purposes. For the purpose of these fellowships, “Asia” refers to South, Southeast, and East Asia, defined as those parts of the continent east of the Khyber Pass and south and east of the Tian Shan Mountains and the Gobi Desert.
