Patricia Simpson, Professor of German Studies at the University of Montana, will talk about the representation of race in German-American discourses, 1840 – 1932. She will present original archival research from German-speaking America to demonstrate the alignment of the projection of racial identity with a transcontinental literature about colonization, scientific exploration, and immigration.
The talk is sponsored by the Department of German and Russian with generous contributions from the Programs in Africana Studies and International Studies, the Center for Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and the Dept. of History.
